About us

We are a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting compassion and shared human responsibility by striving to protect and uphold the rights of all people, regardless of race, gender, or religion.

At Al-Ansar, we proudly operate a 100% Donation Policy. This means every penny you donate goes directly to those in need, not a single penny is taken from your contribution for administration or overhead costs.

From food distributions and clean water projects to educational support and emergency relief, your generosity reaches the people it was intended for in full.

With Al-Ansar, you can give with confidence, knowing your Sadaqah and Zakat are delivered transparently, responsibly and with maximum impact.

Our Mission

Our mission embraces an inclusive approach to addressing the needs of vulnerable populations across the globe. We focus on delivering immediate relief to individuals affected by poverty, natural disasters, and conflict, ensuring they receive the support necessary to rebuild their lives.

Our Story - The Beginning

In January 2023 Imran Khan moved from Luton, UK to set up home in Istanbul.  He was asleep in his apartment on February 6th when at 4.17 AM local time a powerful earthquake struck southern Turkey and northern Syria. News of the quake travelled fast and soon Imran’s mobile was buzzing with messages and calls from worried family back in the UK.

He reassured them that Istanbul was more than 1,000 km from Gaziantep, the city closest to the epicentre of the quake.

Imran spoke with his friend Khurram and they decided to get together and join in the rescue work. They set up a GoFundMe page to collect money to buy provisions for the people made homeless. Family, friends and the wider community in the UK were supportive. Khurram then travelled to Turkey to meet up with Imran to plan their rescue work. Several UK based supporters also travelled to Turkey to help out with the preparation and distribution of emergency aid parcels.

Imran and Khurram had a chance meeting with Lauren Booth, who had also relocated from the UK to Istanbul, and was now working with the One Nation Charity’s rescue operation. Lauren was an inspiration and helped plant the seed in their minds that maybe they should get more involved in International relief efforts in a more organised way. Form a group? Maybe even a Charity?

Al-Ansar is formed

Khurram and Imran discussed this further and decided quickly, as if inspired, on the name ‘Al-Ansar’ (The Helpers) – with the strap line ‘Al-Ansar The Helpers Of The Ummah’. Once back in England Khurram set the ball rolling and opened a community bank account . To get Al Ansar off the ground as an official organisation with a formal structure was challenging. All were ‘newbies’  with no experience in the running of a community group or a charity. But soon the formal roles of Chair, Treasurer and Secretary were filled and a number of volunteer helpers were recruited too. Things were taking shape and coming together under the banner of ‘Al-Ansar’.

Al-Ansar goes to Turkey

Towards the end of 2023 the first deployment of the Al-Ansar community group took place when 12 UK volunteers went  to Turkey to help out with the aftermath of the earthquake.

Al-Ansar goes to Egypt (for Palestine)

Five deployments followed from 2023 to 2025 in Egypt. Al-Ansar in collaboration with other NGO’s under the umbrella of the Red Crescent contributed substantial quantities of supplies to fill  convoys of lorries bound for the Rafah crossing. Al-Ansar also helped Palestinian refugees living in and around Cairo  by supplying 310 large food packs, each parcel containing enough to sustain a family for one month. Imran had recruited his brother Majid who in turn recruited his friend Chris Burns. They met up with a group of UK Al-Ansar members in Cairo. By now all were kitted out in Al-Ansar branded clothing. Al-Ansar was growing and consolidating. Everything was coming together nicely.

Al-Ansar goes to Uganda

2025 saw the start of collaboration with projects in Uganda. Majid Khan and Chris Burns visited a Hope Foundation run school in the district of Namayingo. They delivered basic teaching equipment and books, planted fruit trees to improve the school environment and paid the rent on the school building for 1 year. Whilst there an appeal for support came from the Shamsiyya Junior School in the district of Mbale. Majid and Chris set off on the 4-hour drive to Mbale to find out more about the school which is managed by the Mpogo Welfare Trust. They were able to supply the school with some books and basic teaching materials. Other deployments in Uganda included  30 Abrahamic Sacrifices for the 2nd Eid for the poor in the District of Namayingo and Iftar meals at the the Hope Foundation School for 200 children. In the district of Sironko one water pump was supplied and installed. The pump was an offering by Imran’s wife’s father.

Al-Ansar becomes a charity

After a long process of completing lots of paperwork, thanks mainly to the efforts of Khurram over many months, in June 2025 Al-Ansar ‘upgraded’ from a community group to a registered charity (No 1213708) A great milestone.
